Goalkeeper and defence

McCarthy didn’t make any stand out saves and conceded two goals. It was arguable that he could’ve organised his defence better for the corner which we conceded from, however it was overall a quiet performance from the goalie.. Goalkeeper. Southampton. ALEX MCCARTHY. 6

7. Cedric had a relatively quiet game against the Baggies as most of his crosses weren’t pinpoint however there was one fantastic ball in which was ruined by a poor header from substitute Long. Solid as always though and put in100% for the team!. Right full-back. Southampton. CEDRIC SOARES

Hoedt was terrific overall and wasn’t really at fault for the shambles at the back for Hegazi’s early goal. He looked confident at the back and helped set the midfield off to form an attack. The defender even won the free-kick which lead to Ward-Prowse’s goal! His score would be higher if two goals hadn’t been conceded but I don’t think the Dutchman will have a sleepless night over that!. Centre-back. Southampton. WESLEY HOEDT. 7

Southampton. JACK STEPHENS. 7. With his third goal in as many games, Jack Stephens is in the form of his life! However, he was the main culprit for Hegazi’s goal, losing his man too easily! However, the defender made up for his poor defending with a brilliant header to give the away side the lead just before half-time. Another good performance from the young man who would have a higher score if it wasn’t for the nature of the first (and possibly second) goal(s).. Centre-back

Bertrand too was solid overall in both attack and defence as he always is! The same story applies though in terms of defenders as the first goal was very sloppy but, in personal terms, Bertrand got away with a foul in the box on ex-Saint Rodriguez who leaped ahead of Bertrand and was pushed down; it should’ve been a penalty.. Left full-back. Southampton. RYAN BERTRAND. 7
