Carrillo impresses – but he still needs to step up

Guido Carrillo was handed his first Southampton start yesterday after two games coming off the bench. He had more than one opportunity to grab his first goal for the club, none of which were taken.

However you can’t be too critical, after all for games on end the Saints have struggled to create chances at all, especially before and after Charlie Austin was out of the first team for whatever reason.

The fact that the £19 million man is getting chances on goal is a positive thing, but he needs to repay Pellegrino’s faith and kick on to an extra gear in the coming matches.

Despite the arrival of Virgil van Dijk Liverpool look no sounder defensively than they did before and with Carrillo’s aerial presence, he could create problems for the Reds’ back-line.
