As yet another week ends with disappointment for Southampton fans, the season continues to rumble ever-closer to its conclusion. Newcastle were the latest team to take points from the Saints, and we look at some of the key points to take from the game.

The one saving grace is that (at time of writing) Saints somehow still find themselves outside of the bottom three. And with a three week break from the league ahead, the team can now afford to turn attentions briefly to the FA Cup, then regroup for the most important fixtures of the year.

Based on this most recent performance there is certainly a lot of work to do. Pellegrino and his players are running out of time to secure their survival, and the manager needs to use this break wisely.

But looking back at Saturday’s defeat, what can fans take away from yet another bad day at the office?
