Goalkeepers and defenders

8.5. Very solid throughout the game, especially dealing with corners in the first half.  The windy conditions made everything in the air difficult to handle.  Wasn’t really forced to make a save from a shot on goal, and had a few communication issues, but kept the clean sheet.. 8.5. Cedric had one of his better games of the season, capping it off with his goal, which was a very nice finish.  Did not deliver a lot of crosses into the box in wide attack, but was the front man in every counter attack and it paid off.. Right full-back. Southampton. CEDRIC SOARES

The game looked ugly from both centre backs, but the style Wigan played, and the field conditions were very difficult.  Stephens had to play a scrappy game, and should be credited with the clean sheet.. Centre-back. Southampton. JACK STEPHENS. 8

WESLEY HOEDT. 8.5. Hoedt had slightly more of an impact than his partner, dealing with the bulk of the aerial balls.  He shadowed the FA Cup leading scorer Will Grigg, and virtually took him out of the game.. Centre-back. Southampton

8. Bertrand appeared to be impacted by Hughes’ presence on the sideline.  He worked really hard in this game, with a more positive attitude, showing desire to go to Wembley.  Hope this is the form we see the rest of the way.. Left full-back. Southampton. RYAN BERTRAND
