Wigan Athletic 0-2 Southampton (FA Cup): Three match takeaways
By Chris Hughes
Redmond’s impact
For much of this season Nathan Redmond has been sub-par, there’s no denying that. However, it seems like much of this may be down to Pellegrino’s negative tactics. The Englishman was hardly a world-beater under Claude Puel but he finished the season before with seven goals whilst this campaign he’s yet to get off the mark.
After coming on shortly after the hour yesterday, Redmond had a great impact and nearly registered an assist after wonderfully playing Gabbiadini through before the Italian was eventually brought down in the area.
Hughes has already said that Redmond is key to the Saints Premier League survival despite Pellegrino leaving him out of the starting picture for nearly two months.
However based on his impact yesterday the 24-year-old will almost certainly be among the first-team in the games to come – with Hughes giving him the freedom to work he’ll hopefully be able to finally score his first goals of the season.
