With just eight league games and hopefully two more FA Cup games left on Southampton’s agenda this season, it’s only natural that, as fans, we start to think about the upcoming summer transfer window.

After the overall monstrosity that this season has been (in league terms anyway), as a fanbase we’ll be hoping that this summer may be the window where we turn things around and start to look like the club we were pushing to be three or four seasons ago with some intent shown from the board and of course new owner Jisheng Gao!

Unfortunately, we’re still in a predicament where relegation is still a real possibility, however we’ve hopefully been given a lifeline with the appointment of Mark Hughes and will still be a Premier League club come the 13th of May!

Even though most would say it’s unlikely, we are still a club who still could be offering European and Premier League football to potential incomers (and to current players who wish to leave) next season through winning the FA Cup. Let’s not kid ourselves though, the most likely scenario is staying up in the Premier League.

So, assuming that it isn’t all gloom and doom by the end of the season, what should the board do to make sure we get back into where we belong next season: the top half of the Premier League? Do we need to bring in a whole squad of new players or make sure we keep the ones who could be tempted to go? Spend or save?
