West Ham 3-0 Southampton: Player ratings
By Chris Hughes
Earlier today Southampton were embarrassed at the London Stadium by hosts West Ham with the Irons scoring all three of their goals in a rampant first-half flurry.
With the Hammers currently experiencing a tough time thanks to disagreements between both the supporters and the board, the match was seen as winnable from a Southampton perspective.
However, Mark Hughes’ side were well and truly turned over the Irons, with Joao Mario and Marko Arnautovic both finding the net – the latter got a brace to make up for his sending off in the reverse fixture.
As a result, West Ham have climbed up the table right up to 14th whilst the Saints are now two points clear of safety in 18th. Thankfully the Saints have a game in hand due to their FA Cup commitments, with both Huddersfield and Swansea having played a match more.
But as proven with the ‘winnable’ games against Burnley, Stoke and Newcastle, nothing is guaranteed with Southampton.
With Mark Hughes struggling with this side, it begs the question as to whether it may actually the players or something deeper. Whilst it’s only one game, the performance from the Saints in the first half was nothing short of diabolical.
So, what ratings can the players be given?
