Midfielders

4. Mario Lemina had a poor game for the Saints, giving the ball away for the first goal and having a typically quiet game in midfield. Without the defensive discipline of Oriol Romeu to his side, the 24-year-old seems to be struggling.. Centre-midfielder. Southampton. MARIO LEMINA

5. PEH had one of the better games of a Saints player despite also being involved in Southampton’s downfall. The Dane did alright in the middle of the park but with Mario and Kouyate playing superbly, the midfielder struggled to assert his authority.. Centre-midfielder. Southampton. PIERRE-EMILE HOJBJERG

Tadic, much like most of his games this season, was below par. He simply doesn’t suit the wide-midfielder role in the 4-4-2 Hughes deployed. He was sluggish, offered little going forward and despite this somehow played the full 90.. Left-midfielder. Southampton. DUSAN TADIC. 3.5

4.5. Redmond had a lot to prove after his relatively uninspiring season so far but today’s game was more of the same. Like Tadic, he offered relatively little from that side which contributed to the fact that the Saints failed to register a shot on target.. Right-midfielder. Southampton. NATHAN REDMOND
