Southampton produced a promising attacking display against Arsenal on Sunday, but defensive frailties ultimately saw them lose 3-2.

Shane Long and Charlie Austin struck for Saints, but a Danny Welbeck brace and a first-half strike from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw the home side take the victory.

More passion and effort seemed to emerge from the players and they seemed to have the Gunners worried at times, but no points come full-time clearly hasn’t done them any favours.

After recalling some players that have been out of the side recently, Mark Hughes will clearer of which players will be up for the end of season fight. Some players did put in improved displays and it looked like the reality of the situation had hit them perhaps just in time.
