Earlier today Southampton were trumped by a resurgent Chelsea side who came behind to win 3-2 in a dramatic affair at St. Mary’s.

When Jan Bednarek fired in his first Saints goal on his Premier League debut to make it 2-0, many home supporters thought the side were headed for a memorable victory and some desperately needed points.

However three goals in eight minutes – two of which came from substitute Olivier Giroud – saw Chelsea turn the match completely on it’s head despite the fact that the fifth-placed side don’t have a huge amount left to play for.

Antonio Conte’s side were poor in the first half, with Dusan Tadic giving the Saints the lead after some magnificent play from Ryan Bertrand put it on a tee for the Serb. The Blues failed to register a shot on target in the 45.

The result, as well as those who kicked off later, leave the Saints five points adrift of safety with the same amount of games remaining – so what can talking points can be drawn from the defeat?
