Alex McCarthy

Up until the Giroud goal on 70 minutes, Alex McCarthy had done brilliantly to keep the Saints in the game. Whilst the Blues didn’t test him with a shot in the first half, there were plenty of crosses aimed for Alvaro Morata which the ‘keeper dealt with well.

Willian was among those playing teasing balls into the Spaniard before his substitution, but McCarthy matched every one.

The Englishman defining moment came early in the second half when Chelsea were attempt to scramble the ball over the line.
