Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Hojbjerg has looked well up for the relegation fight and this carried on yesterday with an important role in midfield.

It was important for the Saints defensive players to not give players such as Eden Hazard, Alvaro Morata and Willian the time and space to operate. Maya Yoshida was often seen getting his challenges in early on Morata, with Hojbjerg mopping up the second balls when possession was won.

The Dane produced an excellent pass to set Ryan Bertrand away ahead of Southampton’s first goal and lofted a perfect ball for Shane Long to go close in the second-half.

Even with Saints’ position looking worse by the day, it will be vital that players such as Hojbjerg continue in this way until the fate of the team is confirmed.
