It appeared to be the same old story for Southampton, with a goalless draw when visiting Leicester City on Thursday night.

In a game where Southampton were expected to go for all three points, they barely threatened.  Shane Long was once again chosen to lead an unsupported attack, and instead of adding a striker late, he was surprisingly removed for Charlie Austin.

Saints fans were baffled by Mark Hughes’ post game comments which cited the team as “apprehensive.”  Of course they were expected to show some nerves.  Especially  after conceding three goals in each of their last four Premier League games.  However, no one expected Southampton to sit back and take a draw.

The final few minutes were nervy as Leicester City won a series of corner kicks.  Although, chance creation was few and far between on the unseasonably warm April night.

With four games to play and seven points needed to stay up, one wonders if the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday is anything but a distraction.  Although nothing has changed, Southampton have to find a way to win in a season entirely devoid results.

Here are three takeaways from the game against Leicester City.
