Once again for Saints, it was heartbreak at Wembley, as they were defeated by Chelsea in the semi final of the Emirates FA Cup.

Southampton were always massive underdogs going into the game due to current league form, and last week’s result against the blues didn’t help either.

Despite Chelsea dominating the majority of the first half, Saints defended well and looked very well organised. Other than Willian clipping the bar with a left footed effort from the edge of the box, Chelsea didn’t make many clear cut chances.

Second half goals from Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata sealed the win for Chelsea, with Charlie Austin having a questionable goal ruled out in between.

Here are three takeaways from the game against Chelsea.
