Redmond’s impact

After coming on in the second half, replacing Shane Long, Nathan Redmond provided a sense of urgency that Saints were lacking in the first 62 minutes of the game. The pacey winger nearly brought Saints level after his low shot from outside the area was somehow kept out by Chelsea stopper Caballero.

The Englishman has been out of favour this season after showing glimpses of his potential at the end of last season, and when he has featured this year he has been underwhelming.

However, when coming off the bench against Chelsea he did look like a danger. Whether he just stood out due to his team mates playing poorly, or he actually did perform well, his presence was felt.

Hopefully he will be able to pull a few more performances together that will earn him a place in the starting line ups in Saints’ upcoming pivotal games.
