Southampton 2-1 Bournemouth: Three takeaways

We Gutted Out a Win
That was a heartfelt performance from Southampton, and their fans. The reaction videos all over twitter were amazing. It gave us all a glimpse of the passion the players possess, as well as the hope that they will march on.
Alex McCarthy was brilliant, making five big saves, including one in stoppage time that you need to see to believe. That save in particular, on a deflected shot, that had eyes for the top corner and the Saints’ hearts.
The defense was uber tough. Wesley Hoedt rolled over his neck in the first half and stuck it out. Maya Yoshida stopped Jermaine Defoe on two near chances late on, and Jan Bednarek played most of the game on a yellow.
This game was a fight to the very end, and because the team showed true grit in the victory, it has given its supporters the hope they need.
Even without Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s presence in the starting eleven the midfield gave it their all. Twitter was afire with Lemina’s selection, but boy did he prove people wrong…
Let’s just hope they can bring that intestinal fortitude to the final three games of the season.
