Manolo Gabbiadini was the hero as he claimed the goal that effectively kept Southampton in the Premier League in their 1-0 triumph over Swansea.

He was well positioned to turn home a scramble in the box on 72 minutes and register the most important goal in the club’s season.

A resolute performance had seen Saints stay in control of the game for much of the evening, and it was ultimately they who held on to a slender lead to put themselves in the driving seat for Premier League safety.

They head into Sunday’s clash with Manchester City with a three-point and nine-goal cushion on the Swans, and are ahead of Huddersfield on goal difference too.
