Goalkeepers and defenders

ALEX MCCARTHY. 6.5. McCarthy had one of his quieter games in Southampton colours, something quite ironic as he faced a side with over 100 PL goals to their name. City only recorded two shots on target in the whole game, with the second coming in the dying stages which was the wonderful lob from Jesus.. Goalkeeper. Southampton

6. Bertrand again had a quiet game – something to be expected with City dominating proceedings but not actually dominating the scoreline. The left-back managed just 15 passes – about a third of his normal involvement.. Left-wing-back. Southampton. RYAN BERTRAND

WESLEY HOEDT. 7. As addressed in my ‘Key Players’ piece, Hoedt has had an upturn in form in the last month or so and again he was solid at the back yesterday. He blocked two shots and managed eight clearances, the latter only bettered by Yoshida. More of the same needed next season.. Centre-back. Southampton

6. Jack Stephens had the quieter game of his three centre-backs, but was solid nonetheless. His best moment of the game arguably came from his bolting run forward which resulted in the Englishman attempting a proper defender’s shot at Claudio Bravo’s goal.. Centre-back. Southampton. JACK STEPHENS

MAYA YOSHIDA. 7. Yoshida had a great game as the season came to a close. He made a game-high nine clearances and was solid throughout. It’ll be interesting to see whether these rumours of a move to the middle-east are true or not as he’d be sorely missed at Southampton.. Centre-back. Southampton

6. Much like Bertrand, Cedric didn’t have a huge amount of involvement with City enjoying 70% of the ball. He completed just 18 passes all game and neither of his crosses found a man.. Right-wing-back. Southampton. CEDRIC SOARES
