This summer will be vital for Southampton, after shortcomings in the transfer market last year resulted in the Saints fighting for Premier League survival.

In addition to this, the side may be looking to move a host of under-performers on before the 2018/19 season begins – among those who could face the chop are Guido Carrillo, Sofiane Boufal and Dusan Tadic.

Last year the Saints only made four signings with one of those being the aforementioned Carrillo who joined in January. With both Wesley Hoedt and Mario Lemina having inconsistent seasons and Jan Bednarek not featuring regularly until the end of the campaign, a real injection is needed this time around.

Having tied Mark Hughes down to a new, three-year contract last night, there is no reason why Southampton can’t press on with transfer business now, and invest in talent before June even reaches its conclusion.

But who should the Saints be targeting this summer? Site Expert Chris Hughes offers his wishlist.
