Southampton Summer Wishlist 2018: Chris Hughes
By Chris Hughes
Quincy Promes (Spartak Moscow)
Whilst this may seem like an obvious option based on January’s ‘will he, won’t he’ transfer saga, I’m still a firm believer Promes is the man Southampton need.
Having lost the majority of their star players in the past season or two, the Saints need a real injection of natural talent and need to be willing to splash the cash on a star player – Promes is that man.
Capable of playing down either wing or even upfront, Promes fills plenty of gaps in Southampton’s roster, especially with both Dusan Tadic and Sofiane Boufal potentially on the way out this summer.
With 21 goals and ten assists to his name in 38 appearances this term, the 26-year-old has direct involvement in nearly one goal a game, which is an impressive feat whatever league you play in.
A deal for the Dutch winger, who plies his trade in Russia, would cost around £30 million as it would’ve in January, but this is simply the amount the board need to spend if they want a genuinely class attacker. Promes could be that link between the midfield and the attack that the Saints so desperately need.
