Dean Henderson (Manchester United/Shrewsbury Town)

At the other side of things in a perhaps cheaper or even temporary option, I believe Southampton should add Dean Henderson to their ranks this summer.

Voted into the League One Team of the Year for his efforts at Shrewsbury Town, Henderson could crown a magnificent season in England’s third tier by helping his side reach the second when the Shrews face Rotherham in the Playoff final this afternoon.

In what has been his first full season of professional football with a senior side, the 21-year-old played 38 times with Shrewsbury conceding just 39 times in 46 league appearances.

It’s unclear what his parent club United plan to do with him next season, but a loan to Southampton or a £5-7 million deal with a buy-back clause could be smart for all parties involved.

With Alex McCarthy now firmly first-choice, it seems smart for the Saints to move Fraser Forster on this summer to get his high wages off the bill. Bringing in a young goalkeeper with potential as Macca’s back-up would be a good move all things considered.
