The summer transfer window is likely to be a crucial time for Southampton as they look to shape Mark Hughes’ squad ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The funds available to the new boss won’t be unlimited but the Saints must know that they are in need of one of two marquee signings to boost both creativity and solidity.

They lacked a leader in defence during 2017/18 and didn’t look like much of an attacking threat until the later games of the campaign.

Sales are also likely again this year too with rumours of exits still strong and some players seeming disinterested at times.

Here are five players who I think could improve the current squad at St Mary’s and push the team back up the Premier League table for next season:
