Southampton: Five alternatives to Quincy Promes for the Saints
By Chris Hughes
Gerard Deulofeu
A slightly off-the-wall suggestion, Deulofeu is set to return to Barcelona at the expiration of his six-month loan with fellow Premier League side Watford come the end of the month.
The Spaniard rejoined his boyhood club last summer after spending some time with Everton and AC Milan, but has naturally struggled to get into the first team with the Catalan side as they boast perhaps the best attack in world football.
The 24-year-old has been one of those players who has shown glimpses of brilliance over the years, but has never quite made that step to the next level. That doesn’t mean he still doesn’t possess great quality however, and he could be an asset to the Saints team despite only scoring once during his time with the Hornets.
If we’re to go off the idea that the high-profile signings such as Jese Rodriguez, Xherdan Shaqiri and Marc Muniesa were Mark Hughes’ doing, then signing Deulofeu on loan from Barca could be just the type of signing we can expect.
