Jannik Vestergaard

Vestergaard was given a spot in Denmark’s travelling party to Russia and would add a physical presence to their defensive options.

However, he would unfortunately not make it onto the pitch in any of his country’s four games at the tournament and could only watch as his teammates made it to the Round of 16 stage.

The club looks likely to bring Barcelona’s Marlon Santos in to provide quality and options at Centre-Back, and skysports.com believe that Saints are ahead of West Ham in the race to sign Vestergaard from Borussia Mochengladbach.

At around 6ft 5in, the 25-year-old would certainly add aerial ability to Mark Hughes’ team, something they have missed since Virgil Van-Dijk was sold to Liverpool in January.

Pursuing defensive targets will be high on the list of Saints this summer after some problems with leaking goals in 2017/18.
