Worrying lack of quality

With just eight days until Saints’ first 2018/19 Premier League game against Burnley, this display will have left fans at St Mary’s concerned.

Monchengladbach knocked the ball round well and looked a well oiled machine, whilst Saints were rather disjointed and seemingly out of sync with each other for most of the game.

A few chances were created for the home side with Manolo Gabbiadini and Maya Yoshida going close, but a lack of co-ordination in defence and midfield led to an easy summer stroll for the German visitors.

The work that the players now put in during the next week must be thorough to make sure they are prepared for their opening game and to produce a performance of promise instead.
