Danny Welbeck on-loan from Arsenal

A late move for a striker or winger by Saints has been suggested, and Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck would certainly fit that mould.

The London Evening Standard has mentioned Southampton alongside Everton and Bournemouth as suitors with first-team opportunities likely to be limited for the England international.

43 appearances for the Gunners yielded 10 goals for the 27-year-old last season, whilst he has 41 Premier League strikes to his name so far.

Welbeck has the ability to play across the frontline and would be able to add significant options to Mark Hughes’ squad.

A loan deal at this stage is most likely to bring him to St Mary’s with his reported £115,000 per week wages a problem for a permanent transfer.
