Southampton vs. Burnley: Opposition threat
By Edward Waugh
The signature of Chris Wood from Leeds United last summer was a smart one from Burnley, in that they secured a striker who could play well to their advantages and style of play.
Due to this, the New Zealand international ended up as the Clarets’ top goal-scorer for their last campaign with 11, which is evermore impressive when the striker was injured for a chunk of this time – missing 14 games in the process (via Transfermarkt).
If fit to start on Sunday against Southampton, it could be wise to ensure that Danish international Jannik Vestergaard sticks close to the former Leicester City player, it being cited that Wood is strong at headed attempts according to whoscored.com – and therefore any way to cut out this threat could go a long way in keeping Burnley at bay.
Besides that, the 6’3 striker does not posses much else to his game, though cutting off his supply line from the cross will also be vital in keeping Saints’ goalkeeper Alex McCarthy or Angus Gunn into pulling off to many saves in the game.
