Out for revenge

The last time the Saints traveled to Goodison Park was as recently as May, when relegation was very much still a possibility.

Playing against a Sam Allardyce-led side, Southampton took the lead late in the second-half through Nathan Redmond’s first and only goal of that campaign. The Saints had played excellently in the second 45 and were seemingly heading for three well-deserved points that would’ve almost certainly confirmed survival – until a massively deflected Tom Davies effort brought the scores level in the sixth minute of added time.

The result felt like a loss and left supporters and players alike dreading their mid-week tie with Swansea, as whilst the Saints eventually won, a loss in Wales would’ve all-but sent them through the trap door.

A few faces may of changed but Mark Hughes will have made the players very aware of what happened last time out and they should be fired up and ready to deliver a good performance today.
