Yesterday afternoon Southampton lost 2-1 to Everton at Goodison Park despite an impressive second-half comeback that saw Danny Ings score his first Saints goal.

The result means the club have just one point to their name from their first two matches of the campaign, and this coming weekend face the tough task of playing Claude Puel’s Leicester City.

Yesterday though the Saints were punished for a slow start, having played the exact same against a tired Burnley side the week before. However, unlike the Clarets, Everton capitalized on this to score twice in the first half.

Theo Walcott was played through by Morgan Schneiderlin as part of a slick free-kick routine from the Toffees, with the winger poking the ball home against his former side.

Marco Silva’s main summer recruit Richarlison scored his third goal in just two Everton appearances on the half-hour mark to double the home team’s advantage, when Walcott turned provider with a smart cross into the Brazilian.

After the interval the Saints were much more positive as Danny Ings gave the traveling side hope when he prodded the ball home from close range. Sadly however, the Saints couldn’t break down the Everton defence again despite the fact that Mark Hughes’ side managed more shots over the 90 minutes than their opponents did.

But how did each Southampton player perform at Goodison Park yesterday?
