Midfielders

Nathan Redmond – Left-midfield – 6

Redmond played out on the left with occasional switches to the right flank. At times his direct runs were able to exploit holes in the Everton defence but Seamus Coleman – who captained the side – had a really good game and therefore the Saints winger’s impact was limited. Made very little mistakes however.

Mario Lemina – Centre-midfield – 4.5

Despite providing an assist for Ings’ goal, Lemina was ill-disciplined throughout the game and was lucky to not be sent off. He had a uncharacteristically low passing accuracy too, only further highlighting his poor day at the office.

Oriol Romeu – Centre-midfield – 6

Partnering Lemina in the middle of the park Romeu had a quieter afternoon than the Gabonese international but also had a low passing accuracy. There wasn’t an awful lot else to be said about his game.

James Ward-Prowse – Right-midfield – 7.5

JWP had a really decent game out on the right before also playing in the middle for a period after Romeu was brought off. He completed five key passes – more than the rest of the Southampton team combined – and was responsible for a lot of the balls which Danny Ings chased. Will have given Mark Hughes a selection headache.
