Yesterday afternoon Southampton were once again beaten on home soil as Leicester left it late, with Harry Maguire scoring perhaps his finest career goal in the 92nd minute.
It left the Saints’ supporters heartbroken, as for all their efforts they deserved at least a point – ultimately the way they reacted to Demarai Gray’s equaliser was concerning, as it allowed the Foxes back into the game.
The winger’s goal came courtesy of an individual mistake from Cedric Soares – something telling of the afternoon from the home perspective. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg then blatantly dived with ten minutes to play and was sent off, leaving the Saints much more open and allowing Harry Maguire to win it at the death.
Southampton are 16th after the result with Burnley and Fulham playing each other today – one of the two will almost certainly leapfrog the Saints leaving them dangerously close to the relegation zone so early in the campaign.
Next up for the club is mid-week trip to Brighton in the Carabao Cup – the match should hopefully allow the Saints to rotate and give some fresh faces a try as despite a trio of very deserving nominees for three key players to follow, their were plenty of players who were poor.
