Brighton 0-1 Southampton: Three key players – 28/08/18

Southampton knocked south-coast rival Brighton & Hove Albion out of the Carabao Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory at the Amex stadium Tuesday night.

Saints fans can collectively breathe a sigh of relief after watching their side keep a shutout to advance to the League Cup third round.  An 88th minute goal by Charlie Austin was all the team would need as Angus Gunn made his first appearance and earned a clean sheet.

The win marks the first for Southampton this season and was a good response from the team following the weekend heartbreak against Leicester.  Southampton now look forward to match week 4 in the Premier League with a trip to London to face Crystal Palace.

Mark Hughes made ten changes to the starting side to provide much needed game time to roster depth.  There were a number of notable performances during the Saints victory, but here are the three players who were most instrumental in the team’s success.
