Southampton 2-2 Brighton 17/09/18: Three key players
By Erik Franzo
Southampton dropped two points while giving away a 2-0 lead on Monday night to visiting Brighton Hove & Albion, extending the Saints woes at St. Mary’s.
Glen Murray was the hero and Shane Duffy the villain, against a Southampton side that looked in total control for the first 45 minutes. Murray’s 90th minute penalty was awarded after Duffy went down easily from an ensuing corner kick.
James Ward Prowse gave the Irishman enough of a nudge in the back for referee Anthony Taylor to give the Seagulls a chance at redemption for an earlier penalty converted by Danny Ings. A decision Mark Hughes explained post game as a centre-back and “a big boy and has gone down a bit easily.”
Again, the poor result will overlook the positives which included a potential Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg Premier League goal of the month. Even the Dane in a post game interview had already lost the joy gained from scoring such a fantastic goal.
Imagine what the entire fan base feels like…
There were some wonderful individual performances in the Southampton side that lead to our three key players, but again, even this article will be entirely overshadowed by the inability to close games out at home.
