Liverpool 3-0 Southampton 22/09/18: Three Key Takeaways
By Marc Walker
25 games without a win versus top-six
Saturday’s defeat saw Saints rack up an impressively poor total of 25 games without a win versus a top-six side.
This run stretches back to May 2016 where Saints claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Spurs at White Hart Lane to eventually finish in sixth place in the Premier League.
What’s more striking is the fact that just six draws have come in that time, meaning a total of six points taken from a possible 75.
This is a shocking statistic and in sums up how other teams in the Premier League have become largely paralysed by fear against the bigger sides.
The next top-six outfit that Saints face are Chelsea when they come to St Mary’s on 7th October. It would be nice to see the team set out in an attacking system and play like they have nothing to lose instead of being resigned to defeat before a ball is kicked.
