Gunn proves he can be called upon

The hero for Saints yesterday was undoubtedly Angus Gunn, who was making just his second appearance of the season.

He made some key saves during the game to help provide a platform for the win, and then crucially kept out Theo Walcott’s penalty in the shoot-out.

After a very decent performance from him in the Second-Round at Brighton too, Mark Hughes certainly has healthy options in the goalkeeping position, with Alex McCarthy the current number one.

It will be comforting to know that if McCarthy picks up an injury at all, there is a high-quality replacement waiting in the wings to call upon.
