Southampton 0-3 Chelsea: Three key players
By Chris Hughes
Mario Lemina
Another man who has come in for criticism due to his inconsistency, Mario Lemina had a good afternoon at St. Mary’s yesterday and that shouldn’t go unrecognized. He knew when to release the ball and when to take men on, as his partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg continues to blossom.
The ex-Juventus man made an impressive three key passes over the duration of the afternoon while also boasting an 86% accuracy – no easy feat against the tough Chelsea midfield.
With the Saints looking to exploit Chelsea with longer passes, Lemina completed three of four long balls in behind as they looked to make the most of Danny Ings’ pace and desire to get in behind.
