Southampton: Five alternatives to Jardim if Saints sack Mark Hughes
By Chris Hughes
Brendan Rodgers
Before the links to Jardim emerged, Rodgers was many of the supporters’ first choice to replace Hughes if the latter got the sack. The Northern Irishman has been slowly rebuilding his reputation with Celtic after an inconsistent spell in charge of Liverpool.
But we mustn’t forget what got Rodgers the Reds job in the first place – his excellent work in charge of Swansea. The 45-year-old got the Welsh side into the Premier League for the first time and once they were there they debuted an attractive, pass-heavy style of football that drew Rodgers plenty of plaudits.
Things didn’t work out ultimately at Liverpool but as expected his time with Celtic has been an unquestioned success. The Bhoys went undefeated across the 2016/17 domestic campaign which is an incredible achievement in any division. Many could argue it’s time to Rodgers to test himself in the Premier League again and Southampton have a great roster for him to work with.
