Southampton: Five alternatives to Jardim if Saints sack Mark Hughes
By Chris Hughes
David Wagner
Pinching from a fellow Premier League side isn’t really Southampton’s style, no less a manager in charge of a side who have managed a worse start to the 2018/19 campaign than the Saints.
Nonetheless, Wagner has done a brilliant job with Huddersfield, no less in just getting them to the Premier League in the first place. Despite a couple of signings in the summer, it’s arguable that Wagner has taken the Terriers as far as they can come, whereas the German has shown the potential to join a bigger side.
While Southampton applied a rather controversial transfer policy this summer, there’s no denying that they are stronger financially than Wagner’s current side, and with the potential to work with better players the 47-year-old could be enticed by a move south.
Despite their lack of form Huddersfield do set up well, playing resiliently at the back but also deploying some nice attacking football when they can.
