How much longer will Hughes get?

Many people earmarked the midweek cup game against Leicester City as a possible ‘last chance saloon’ for Mark Hughes, but the match was understandably postponed after the tragic death of the Foxes’ chairman last weekend.

Now, Hughes goes into today’s game against his former side knowing that many supporters are calling for his head, after a worse start to the campaign than the Saints had last year under Pellegrino.

A drubbing this afternoon could be the last straw for many fans at least, although it remains unclear whether the board are still supporting the Welshman after the terrible start to the year.

Next weekend the Saints face a Watford side who lost this weekend to Newcastle – a result which has made the bottom five much more congested. The game against the Hornets will be a must-win and it’s not clear whether Hughes will be in charge or not if Southampton are thrashed today.
