Southampton were well-beaten by Manchester City on Saturday as a mix of bad defending and good attacking play eventually meant a 6-1 defeat.

A brace from Raheem Sterling, further strikes from David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane and an own-goal from Wesley Hoedt completed the rout, whilst Saints could only reply with a Danny Ings penalty.

Although hopes of a result before kick-off weren’t too high, this defeat is a huge blow to Mark Hughes and his side and will only create further questions about the Welshman’s future.

With the side now perched perilously above the Premier League relegation zone, upcoming games against Watford and Fulham become even more vital.
