Manchester City 6-1 Southampton: Three key players
By Erik Franzo
Danny Ings
Probably the most obvious choice to make this article…
Danny Ings shows desire, wants to score, works hard, and is trying to be a leader for his teammates. It is just not rubbing off. Watching closely, you can see creativity in his runs, and how he desires for the ball through from his midfielders, but is not getting the consistent service he deserves. Ings can easily fall into a trap of trying to do too much, but against City, he played within himself as the out-and-out striker.
The ball he did receive was a beautiful pass from Ryan Bertrand and getting there ahead of Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson won him the penalty. He took the place kick very calmly and notched his fourth goal of the Premier League season, which should be a positive for a Saints side struggling for goals.
