Southampton face fellow relegation fighters Fulham this weekend, in what is a must win game for the away side – failure to do so could spell big trouble in which manager Mark Hughes is reportedly close to being sacked.
The two sides last met back in January in the FA cup when the London-based side were still residing in the championship, to which Southampton were victorious on the day with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from James Ward-Prowse.
Fast forward ten months, the Saints have had a change in management as the mentioned Hughes took charge of the departing Mauricio Pellegrino whilst Fulham were promoted to the Premier League via the playoffs after an impressive run of results towards the end of the season, however have made a managerial change as well in appointing Claudio Ranieri around a week ago.
The challenge of Premier League survival for Southampton opponents, meant that they have invested heavily over the summer – to be more exact a reported figure of around £100M on 14 players means that there is plenty of threats Hughes’ men should be aware of, but which in particular could cause Saints upset this weekend?
