Southampton hold Leicester to a controversial goalless draw, but the Foxes prevail on penalties 6-5.

You must be made of Stern stuff to be a Saints fan right now. Yet again Mark Hughes’ side have the better chances over there hosts and yet again they fail to triumph.

This time around, Saints will at least have the hollow consolation of being able to blame a debatable VAR our decision, which chalked off a would-be winning goal for handball in the build-up.

Though many fans will simply blame the referee or technology for the team’s downfall, it was there typical inability to take a golden chance that cost the Saints dearly.

But, even in League Cup defeat there are still positives to be had. With that having been said, here are the player ratings for Southampton’s Penalty shootout defeat to Leicester City.
