Southampton: Portuguese manager Paulo Sousa linked to Saints
It is being reported by several outlets that the former Swansea and Leicester boss is looking ever the more likely to replace Hughes at Southampton.
Sousa, was at the match against Fulham but reports are conflicting of the reason for his attendance to the match.
Sousa has bounced around a bit in his career as a manger. His first head coaching job was with Queens Park Rangers in 2008 but that was short lived as he was sacked in 2009. After that, he had brief stints with both Swansea and Leicester. He has also spent time at clubs like Videoton, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Basel, and Fiorentina.
His track record is not spectacular. He has had limited success and his teams are known to be low scoring while conceding little as well.
With owner, Gao Jisheng, apparently leading the hunt for a new manager himself, this connection makes sense. Sousa was most recently coaching in Mr. Goa’s native country, China. And the Chinese businessman is familiar with Sousa during his time in Asia.
With seemingly a new name linked to Southampton every other day, Sousa joins the ever-growing list of potential candidates to take the reins of Southampton if Hughes gets the sack.
It is being reported, that Saturday could be Hughes’ last match in charge, against his former club Manchester United. Every day brings fans closer and closer to the answer of their most burning question. Who will be the next man to try and turn this club around and restore it to its rightful place in the league?
