Southampton: Hasenhuttl agrees in principle to become Saints manager
All within 24 hours, Southampton have sacked former manager Mark Hughes and have seem to found his replacement in Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Sky News has reported, from their sources that Ralph Hasenhuttl will become the new manager of Southampton before the week is out. This appointment has fans buzzing as he is a manger who has had success in his career in a top league and plays an attractive style of football.
He is most known for his aggressive style of football that relies on pressing and quick transitions in a not-so-common 4-2-2-2 formation.
He most recently spent time at Leipzig and saw his side finish in the top half of the table both years he was in charge and a Champions League appearance to go with it. He played a big part in the development of players like Timo Werner and Naby Keita, turning them into the world class players they are today.
In his time at Leipzig, he carried a 48.19% winning percentage and that is a huge improvement of the 13.6% winning percentage Hughes had at Southampton.
The Austrian is most known for his aggressive style of football that relies on pressing and quick transitions in a not-so-common 4-2-2-2 formation.
His style of play should translate well over to the Premier League and Southampton seem to have the players that would fit the system. A player like Shane Long would work well in a pressing system (even if he does not score well) because of his high work rate and speed when closing down on the ball. Nathan Redmond could also flourish under the Austrians system and hopefully the goal drought will come to an end soon.
The Hasenhuttl appointment has Saint Fans buzzing for another reason as well. Many see this as enough of a reason for former head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell, to make his return to the club. He currently works for Leipzig and the hirer of a manager he worked with could persuade him to rejoin the club.
