Southampton came into the match against West Ham high on confidence but quickly showed they were low on energy as they take a step back.

The high-press that was seen against both Arsenal and Huddersfield was seemingly absent against the London based team on Thursday night and it cost Southampton. West Ham had the better possession, the better chances, and were simply the better team on the pitch.

The Festive period and the new high-intensity training may have taken a toll on the players and they were a bit worn down. Hopefully they rest up and Hasenhuttl can have them ready to go in the next few days against City. But before moving onto the City match let’s take a look at what we can take away from the match Thursday.
