Southampton 1-3 Man City : Premier League – Three Match Takeaways

In a game which had significant impact at both ends of the table, there was never any chance of an upset on the cards at St Mary’s as Manchester City prevailed over a tired and timid Southampton.

In truth, the scoreline could have been higher for the visitors but for a couple of stellar saves from the inundated Alex McCarthy and a few last ditch tackles made by the desperate Southampton defence.

Although Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men had brief spells where they threatened Ederson’s goal, it always seemed unlikely that Pep Guardiola had much to be worried about, especially following the Citizen’s quickfire double on the stroke of half-time.
