Southampton watched a 2-0 lead slip away and are now headed for an FA Cup replay with Derby County at St. Mary’s.

The Saints could not have started better, taking a one goal lead in the fourth minute via a Nathan Redmond left-footed strike.  The move started from a Southampton throw-in, and although it was recorded as an own-goal for Derby’s Richard Keogh, it looked destined for the corner.

Derby County did well keeping most of first half possession, but Southampton looked very comfortable allowing them to have it.  The first half did not scream enthusiasm, but James Ward-Prowse and the debuting Callum Slattery did enough to keep a lead at half time.

Nathan Redmond, who was the star of the show, scored a fantastic goal to put the Saints up two in the second half.  However, Southampton reverted back to their old selves and relaxed just a little too much allowing Derby back in the game in a span of just three minutes.  Ralph Hasenhuttl looked extremely disappointed in his side and now will have an extra game to play in the midst of a relegation battle.

This was a huge opportunity for a number of players to impress the new Southampton manager, but unfortunately only a handful did.  Here are our player ratings from the FA Cup match with Derby County.
