Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 7

Will get applauded for using his youth, and starting 8 players from the academy.  However, Austin, Long, and Elyounoussi just did not cut it today.  Went with a 4-4-2 system with a thin central midfield and did not use his final substitution.  Cannot be happy with the replay after going 2-0 up, and players on trial may be in trouble.

Angus Gunn, Goalkeeper – 7

Not much to do in the first half, but again showed smart decision-making leaving his line.  Cannot fault him for either goal, and shows the type of passion a keeper needs.

Cedric Soares, Right-Back – 4

Back in the side, but switched to the right.  Service was better in the first half, almost finding Austin and Long to create chances.  However, he chased Tom Lawrence across the entire back line, rather than leave him offside to setup the first goal.  Then failed to step and stop Lawrence as the shooter on the second.  His mindset seemed elsewhere and as a former European Cup Champion you expect much, much better.

Jannik Vestergaard, Centre-Back – 5

Has looked good since Hasenhuttl came in but a few dodgy moments here including a skewed clearance that went straight up in the air instead of down the pitch.

Jack Stephens, Centre-Back – 5.5

Solid first half in 1v1 tackles, but did lose the ball trying to dribble out of pressure in the defensive third.  Not much to note in the second half, other than a missed opportunity to score from a Ward-Prowse cross.  We may see a lot of Stephens in the next few weeks, so he needs to improve.

Matt Targett, Left-Back – 3

Recovered from a muscle injury and back in the starting eleven, but not for long with Bertrand on his way back.  Duane Holmes made Targett look like swiss cheese in the first half, nut-megging him early, but was bailed out by Nathan Redmond cover.  The second half was more of the same with Targett getting burned again by Holmes in the build up to the game tying goal.  Lacks pace and connectivity to help Redmond play 2v2 and delivered no crosses of note.  Deciding not to sell him to Fulham is now looking like quite a mistake.
