New faith in youth is promising

The previous struggles that youth academy products had when trying to break in the Saints first-team seem to be well behind them now.

Yesterday saw a senior debut for midfielder Callum Slattery, whilst Marcus Barnes and Tyreke Johnson both came off the bench to make appearances in the second-half.

Since Ralph Hasenhuttl was appointed around a month ago, five players have made their debuts for the first-team after two seasons of lacking belief in the club’s youngsters.

It is also telling that Jake Hesketh and Josh Sims have been recalled from loans to potentially pla a part in the second part of the campaign.
